Da Nang has a slightly ridiculous golf problem. You can wake up beside the beach, eat a bowl of noodles for breakfast, and be standing on a championship fairway before your body has fully understood that it is morning.
The Central Vietnam golf scene now gives you several serious options: BRG Da Nang, Montgomerie Links, Ba Na Hills and Hoiana Shores. They are very different courses, and choosing purely because a brochure says world-class is how humans end up paying $200 to discover that their golf ball has apparently joined another family.
If I had to choose one course for most visitors to Da Nang, I would start with BRG Da Nang Golf Resort, especially the Greg Norman Dunes Course. It gives you the strongest combination of location, golf character, coastal scenery and a proper Da Nang experience.

1. BRG Da Nang: The Course I Would Play First
The original BRG Da Nang course was designed by Greg Norman and built through a coastal dune landscape. It is around 7,160 yards and plays like a proper seaside course, with sandy areas, natural vegetation, wide fairways and plenty of room for the landscape to make you feel slightly insignificant.
That is exactly what I like about it.
It does not feel like someone bulldozed a piece of land, planted grass and then added a few decorative palm trees for the Instagram department.
The dunes are part of the golf.
The location is also excellent. You are close to the beach, Marble Mountains and the main resort strip, so you can combine golf with an actual Da Nang holiday instead of spending half your vacation sitting inside a golf transfer van.
My practical opinion: play this course early in your Da Nang trip. You get the coastal experience, and you can still walk into a seafood restaurant afterward without having to explain to your friends why you have spent the entire day driving into the mountains.
One useful detail: BRG now has both Norman and Nicklaus layouts, so when somebody says they played BRG, ask which course. Otherwise you are discussing two different golf experiences while pretending to know what happened.
2. Ba Na Hills: The Most Interesting Change of Scenery

Ba Na Hills is the course I would choose when I want something completely different.
Designed by Luke Donald, it sits in the foothills west of Da Nang and uses the natural elevation changes rather than pretending the land is flat. The course opened in 2016 and is known for its mountain setting and night-golf option.
This is one of the little secrets of Da Nang golf: you can play golf at night at Ba Na Hills.
That sounds like something invented by a marketing department after too many meetings, but it is real.
The mountain environment also changes the feeling dramatically. Instead of staring toward the sea, you are looking into valleys and forested hills.
The catch is heat.
Do not see the words Ba Na Hills and imagine cool mountain air while wearing a sweater. The golf course sits at the foot of the mountains, and summer can still be brutally humid. Local golfers and recent visitors specifically mention the heat and humidity.
My personal take: if you have two rounds in Da Nang, BRG + Ba Na Hills gives you much more variety than playing two similar coastal courses.
3. Hoiana Shores: The Serious Golfer’s Problem
Hoiana Shores Golf Club

Hoiana Shores is where things get serious.
The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and is a true links-style layout beside the coast. Recent golfers have praised its conditioning, fairways and greens, while local golf comparisons consistently place it among the major courses around Da Nang. (Asia Golf Specialists)
And here is the part golf brochures do not always explain very clearly:
Wind changes everything.
On a calm day, you may think you are playing brilliantly.
Then the wind arrives and suddenly your beautiful 7-iron becomes a philosophical discussion about mortality.
Hoiana is also more expensive than the other main Da Nang options, with 2026 visitor pricing commonly reported around the $220–320 range depending on date and package.
So I would not automatically tell a casual golfer to spend that money.
If you genuinely enjoy links golf, however, it is a very different experience from BRG and Ba Na Hills.
4. Montgomerie Links: Convenient, Good, But Not Quite the Legend

Montgomerie Links is probably the easiest recommendation for golfers who want a convenient round between Da Nang and Hoi An.
It is a Colin Montgomerie design, par 72, around 7,091 yards from the back tees, and it has been operating since 2009. It is roughly 20 minutes from either Da Nang or Hoi An under normal conditions.
The course is attractive and playable for a wide range of handicaps.
But here is the opinion some people will not enjoy:
I would not put Montgomerie automatically above BRG just because the Montgomerie name sounds impressive.
Recent visitor reviews have raised complaints about course condition, greens and management, although other golfers still enjoy the layout. (Tripadvisor)
That matters.
Golf is not only about the architect’s name. You are paying for today’s course condition, today’s service and today’s experience.
A famous designer cannot personally come out and fix your bunker while you are standing in it.
My view: Montgomerie is a good practical choice, particularly if you are staying around Hoi An or want an easier round. I just would not pay a huge premium for the name.
5. What I Would Actually Do in Da Nang
If I were planning a golf trip here, I would keep it simple.
One round: BRG Da Nang, Norman Course.
You get the coastal landscape, strong design character and an easy location.
Two rounds: BRG + Ba Na Hills.
That gives you two completely different environments. One is coastal dunes. The other is mountain golf.
Three rounds: BRG + Ba Na Hills + Hoiana Shores.
Now you have three different personalities of golf rather than three expensive versions of the same morning.
Golf obsessive with extra time: add Montgomerie.
Staying in Hoi An: Montgomerie and Hoiana become much more attractive because geography starts doing some of the decision-making for you.
And one practical rule: book your tee time around the weather, not your breakfast.
Da Nang can be hot, humid and windy. Early morning is generally much more comfortable than trying to prove something to the sun at 1:30pm.
Recent 2026 golf guides put the main course prices roughly in the $120–320 range depending on the course, season and package, so this is not cheap entertainment. Twilight rates can sometimes reduce the damage, particularly during the hotter months. (Go Golf Vietnam)
The Bottom Line
For me, BRG Da Nang is the best place to start if you are visiting Da Nang and only have time for one serious round.
Not because it is perfect. None of these courses are.
It is because the experience makes sense as part of a Da Nang trip. Coastal dunes, sea views, Marble Mountains nearby, good accessibility and a course that actually feels connected to the landscape.
Ba Na Hills is more unusual.
Hoiana Shores is more demanding and more expensive.
Montgomerie is convenient and perfectly respectable, but I would judge it by current conditions rather than its famous designer.
And that is probably the biggest lesson about golf in Da Nang: do not choose only by the name on the scorecard.
Choose the landscape, weather, location, course condition and the kind of golf you actually enjoy.
Because after spending $200 on a golf ball, the ball does not care which famous architect designed the hole. It is still going into the water.
